Charles Linza McNary was not considered much of a campaigner. He gave one or two speeches when he ran for office, preferring to spend the campaign season on his Salem area farm. Charles Linza McNary (1874-1944) served as U.S. senator from Oregon from 1917-1944. He also served on the Oregon Supreme Court from 1913-1915 and ran for President of the United States in 1940 and was the unsuccessful candidate for Vice President later that year.
